Cascade calls for AI projects: open opportunities and upcoming releases

The latest FAIR (Future Artificial Intelligence Research) cascade calls dedicated to universities and research centers are still being published.

Today marks the release of the cascade call for Universities and Research Institutions under Spoke 5 – High-quality AI, coordinated by Sapienza University of Rome, focusing on four research objectives:

  1. Planning and human-AI teaming
  2. Data-centric artificial intelligence
  3. Understanding and processing multimodal content
  4. Pilot projects and demonstrations

The call has a total budget of approximately €1.4 million, part of which is allocated to the development of Southern Italy, and will remain open until 5:00 PM on May 7, 2024.

Regarding Spoke 3 – Resilient AI, the cascade call for Universities and Research Institutions is still open, with a deadline of April 15, 2024. The call has a total budget of over €2 million across six research objectives:

  1. Resilient AI through pre-processing and HCI techniques
  2. Dealing with multimodal and noisy datasets
  3. AI to support software developers
  4. Resilient AI in distributed architectures
  5. AI systems in challenging environments

This call is reserved for applicants based in Southern Italy, meaning that the research activity must be carried out in Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia, or Sicily.

Spoke 6 – Symbiotic AI has instead launched the first cascade call dedicated to large, medium, and small enterprises, as well as startups. In this case, the initiative aims to fund up to 8 industrial research projects, experimental development activities, and feasibility studies carried out by companies.
The call, coordinated by the University of Bari “Aldo Moro,” is open until 12:00 PM on May 3, 2024.

The remaining nine calls launched by the spokes for companies will be published between April and May and will be promptly available on the FAIR Foundation website.
