The impact of this technology on medical practice is at the center of one of the many research projects funded by the PNRR within the FAIR (Future Artificial Intelligence Research) initiative. Coordinated by <em>Laura Sartori and Chiara Binelli<\/em> from the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna and by <em>Alessandra Retico, Andrea Chincarini, Francesca Lizzi<\/em>, and <em>Francesco Sensi<\/em> from the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) \u2013 within <a href=\"https:\/\/fondazione-fair.it\/en\/spoke\/spoke-8-pervasive-ai\/\"><strong>FAIR Spoke 8<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 this study represents the first attempt in Italy to explore how the <strong>pervasiveness of AI<\/strong> is reshaping the <strong>operational practices of doctors<\/strong> and medical physicists.<\/p>\n<p>In the medical field, AI is becoming an increasingly valuable ally. From advanced diagnostic tools that support early disease detection, to decision-support systems that suggest treatments based on complex data analysis, AI is transforming healthcare. However, alongside these benefits, new challenges and questions are emerging:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How does the role of the doctor change in an environment where AI plays a central role?<\/li>\n<li>What skills will future healthcare professionals need?<\/li>\n<li>And how can we ensure that AI is used in an ethical and responsible way?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong>Objectives of the research project<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>This research project aims to answer these questions by investigating the concrete impact of AI on medical practice. It is the <strong>first study in Italy<\/strong> to examine how doctors and medical physicists are adapting their practices to the integration of artificial intelligence. Through detailed analysis, FAIR researchers seek to understand how AI is redefining daily work in healthcare, from diagnosis to treatment and patient management.<\/p>\n<p>The participation of healthcare professionals is crucial to the success of this research. Doctors are asked to dedicate approximately 20 minutes of their time to complete an <strong>anonymous questionnaire<\/strong>, whose responses will help define key guidelines for the future development and use of AI in medicine. All collected information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, in compliance with European data protection regulations, and used exclusively for scientific purposes.<\/p>\n<p>The results of this study will be essential for understanding how AI can be effectively and efficiently integrated into medical practice, ensuring that professionals are well prepared to make the most of these technologies.
